THE PRACTICE

Our Practice

We have been a Family Owned and Operated business since 1986. Dr. Hungerford's technique is largely biomechanics/biophysics focused. Our main goal in our office is to educate each patient to their particular health needs, and help them to maintain consistent health throughout their lives. We treat a variety of ages, from Newborn to Grandma!

We have been located in Plumas County since 1999, and prior to that served the greater part of the East Bay Area. Dr. Hungerford thuroughly enjoys his mountain practice and the wonderful community he serves.

The Doctor
Richard D. Hungerford B.A.,D.C.

"I was born in Corona California as the son of a Navy Jet Pilot, and grew up in Visalia California. As a child, I was a bit of a daredevil! I was always falling off things, jumping, climbing, and playing sports. The worst injury I sustained was at age 10 when I  fell out of a tree 15 feet, then fell another 15 feet further! The local clinic only fixed my broken arm, and ignored my other body parts. Two years passed and my back pain progressively got worse, causing me to become temporarily paralyzed several times per year. I was offered a lumbar spinal surgery, and out of fear, I refused.

I continued to play sports through high school, but over the next few years, I had to quit all but football (because of my level of passion). I went onto Fresno State to pursue a coaching degree at age 20. This proved to be a physical struggle for me, due to my condition. It became very frustrating to continue to live this way as such a young man. A class mate of mine mentioned Chiropractic, and my journey into health began. After my first adjustment, I dedicated my life to Chiropratic, and knew that I would go on to become a Doctor of Chiropractic.

I finished Chiropractic college in 1986 at age 30 and went straight to work, opening my own practice in the East Bay Area; very uncommon for a recent graduate! My first child was born two years later, and my second 4 years after that. My life has been an incredible journey of loving, helping, treating, and improving lives! I am truly grateful to continue to spread my knowledge and expertise about Biomechanical Chiropractic Care.

Biophysics and Biomechanics Explained:

"Structure governs Function"

Biophysics is the application of physics to the human frame, proving that we should be straight from the front, with proper curves from the side. Humans come with these "specifications" of proper posture.

The human structure, framed by bones, functions through our nervous system. When our structure is misaligned, our nervous system malfunctions. This can lead to pain, muscle tighness and weakness, and disease.

Animals in need of care?...

Dr Hungerford is also certified in Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation, VOM. He has helped countless dogs and several horses not only maintain their abilities, but even regain them! If you have a loved pet that is suffereing from Hip Displaysia, inability to walk, decrease in mood or appitite, please don't hesitate to give the gift of chiropractic vitality!
